Torc selects AWS as preferred cloud provider
Self-driving truck developer Torc Robotics has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its preferred cloud provider, as the company prepares to deploy its fleet of self-driving test trucks in New Mexico and Virginia. Daimler subsidiary Torc said that the partnership will help it to handle the scale and speed it needs for data transfer, storage and compute capacity as it works towards the commercialisation of Level 4 automated trucks.
Waymo to expand San Francisco testing
Self-driving technology firm Waymo has announced plans to expand its testing in San Francisco through limited rider testing by employee volunteers. In research conducted late last year, the company found that nearly a quarter of San Franciscans don't feel safe on the city's roads.

Cybersecurity
A report by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre and the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) has warned of the cybersecurity risks linked to the uptake of artificial intelligence in autonomous vehicles.
"Security should not come as an afterthought, but should instead be a prerequisite for the trustworthy and reliable deployment of vehicles on Europe’s roads," said ENISA Executive Director Juhan Lepassaar.
Meanwhile, a new study into connected car security from cybersecurity firm Trend Micro has warned of the multiple scenarios in which drivers could encounter attacks that threaten their safety.
Mapping
Ordnance Survey has called for a single standard for connected and autonomous vehicles to capture their location with pinpoint accuracy and communicate it to each other. The organisation warns that leaving it to 'the mercy of the market' could lead to cars with lower-quality sensors or maps causing a crash when changing lanes ahead of a car with different sensors.
